About me

I'm Marcel van de Vis Heil — acupuncturist, yoga teacher, breathwork facilitator, personal trainer and writer based between the Netherlands and the mountains of northern Portugal.

I've been practising yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2000. Over the years I've trained extensively in Ashtanga-, Anusara- and Yin Yoga, studying more than 1000 hours with Yin Yoga pioneer Paul Grilley, whose assistant I later became. I co-founded The Fat Yogis and have taught on Ekhart Yoga and Yoga Easy. I'm a Yoga Alliance registered teacher (ID 37121) and hold a 500-hour teaching credential.

In 2018 I completed my training as an acupuncturist and herbalist in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I now combine TCM with yoga, breathwork and personal training in an integrated approach to health and wellbeing.

I'm also a NASM certified personal trainer, a CrossFit Level 1 coach, a Vipassana meditator and the author of Mula (2014). I have been featured in and contributed to Yoga Internationaal, Yoga magazine, Happinez and Yoga Journal USA.

My work is rooted in one simple belief: that the body knows how to heal — and that our job is to create the right conditions for that to happen.

Marcel completed his MBK (Medical Base Knowledge) at Con Amore in 2018, and his acupuncture studies at Total Health Academy in 2021
His thesis “How can acupuncture help to reduce jet lag complaints?” was granted with a 9.2 (out of 10). When you’re interested in this thesis you can download it here.
