About Marcel

Marcel is an acupuncturist with a passion for helping people. His interest in acupuncture started in the mid ’90s when he lived in the house of a renowned Chinese acupuncturist, who would inspire him with stories about Chinese history and knowledge of Chinese medicine on Friday evenings over a cup of tea. It would take about 20 years before he decided to start his acupuncture studies.

Marcel has been practising yoga for over two decades, after finding the healing benefits of the practice and meditation helped him navigate a difficult period in his life. He started his journey with Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and Vipassana meditation, moving into more static, alignment-based yoga.

Then he met Yin yoga’s founder, Paul Grilley and his wife Suzee, who showed him the physical, mental and spiritual uniqueness of every individual’s body. Studying under their wings significantly changed Marcel’s perspective on asana practice and meditation. The understanding that we’re all unique and therefore need a unique approach to whatever we do now underpins all of Marcel’s teachings.

Marcel is a highly experienced teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience, including teacher trainings and workshops worldwide as well as on-line classes on The Fat Yogis, an on-line platform that he co founded. He calls the style of yoga that he teaches Functional yoga, which explores how to use yoga poses in the most beneficial way for your unique body, rather than trying to force or fit your body into an aesthetic pose.

Marcel is a long-term gym goer, a (N.A.S.M.) personal trainer in the gym and level 1 Crossfit coach. He teaches a combination of strength work and weight resistance to help his clients recover from injuries or other physical issues. Marcel blends yoga, meditation, weightlifting, boxing and running to maintain a healthy lifestyle. He believes that combined with healthy food and proper sleep, functional, multi-disciplined movement is the best way to maintain mental and physical health.

Marcel completed his MBK (Medical Base Knowledge) at Con Amore in 2018, and his acupuncture studies at Total Health Academy in 2021
His thesis “How can acupuncture help to reduce jet lag complaints?” was granted with a 9.2 (out of 10). When you’re interested in this thesis you can download it here.
